Indications:
FAMOMAX 40MG is used for treatment and maintenance of gastric and duodenal ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and conditions with hypersecretion of gastric acid.
Pharmacology:
Famotidine selectively blocks histamine H2 receptors on gastric parietal cells, inhibiting acid secretion and thereby reducing gastric acidity.
Dosage:
Usually prescribed as 40 mg once or twice daily depending on condition severity. Dose adjustment required for renal impairment.
Administration:
Oral use, with or without food. Should be taken regularly at the same time each day for best effect.
Interaction:
May interact with drugs like ketoconazole and itraconazole that require acidic environment for absorption; avoid antacids within one hour of dosing.
Contraindications:
Patients allergic to Famotidine or other H2 receptor antagonists should not use this medicine.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include headache, dizziness, constipation, diarrhea; rarely confusion or arrhythmias.
