Indications:
Olmesan is indicated for the treatment of essential hypertension. It can be used alone or with other blood pressure-lowering medications.
Pharmacology:
Olmesartan medoxomil is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB). It works by relaxing blood vessels, allowing blood to flow more easily and lowering blood pressure.
Dosage:
The usual starting dose is 10 mg once daily. Depending on the response, the dose may be increased up to 20 mg or 40 mg per day.
Administration:
Can be taken with or without food. It’s recommended to take it at the same time each day.
Interaction:
May interact with NSAIDs, potassium-sparing diuretics, lithium, or other antihypertensive medications. These interactions can either enhance side effects or alter the effectiveness.
Contraindications:
Should not be used in patients allergic to olmesartan or during pregnancy. Also contraindicated in patients with severe liver or kidney dysfunction.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include dizziness, headache, fatigue, and gastrointestinal discomfort. Rarely, serious hypotension or kidney problems may occur.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Olmesan is not recommended during pregnancy, especially after the first trimester. Use during breastfeeding should be done with caution and medical advice.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor blood pressure regularly. Use cautiously in patients with kidney or liver impairment. Not recommended in pregnancy.
