Indications:
Vibose 0.2mg is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus, particularly for controlling postprandial hyperglycemia, as monotherapy or in combination with other anti-diabetic agents.
Pharmacology:
Vibose contains Acarbose, an alpha-glucosidase inhibitor that delays carbohydrate digestion and absorption in the intestine, leading to a smaller rise in blood glucose after meals.
Dosage & Administration:
The usual starting dose is 25 mg once daily with the first bite of a main meal. Dosage may be gradually increased up to 0.2 mg three times daily depending on patient tolerance and blood glucose levels. Taken with meals.
Interaction:
May interact with digestive enzyme preparations (e.g., amylase), intestinal adsorbents, and antacids. Risk of hypoglycemia when combined with insulin or sulfonylureas.
Contraindications:
Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to Acarbose, inflammatory bowel disease, colonic ulceration, partial intestinal obstruction, or chronic digestive disorders.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include flatulence, abdominal discomfort, and diarrhea. Rarely, liver enzyme elevations or hypersensitivity reactions may occur.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use only if clearly needed and prescribed by a physician. Safety during pregnancy or lactation has not been fully established.
Precautions & Warnings:
Regular monitoring of liver enzymes is recommended during treatment. Not effective in treating type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.
Therapeutic Class:
Alpha-glucosidase inhibitors
Storage Conditions:
Store in a cool and dry place below 30°C. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
