Indications:
DEXAQUA 500ML is indicated for fluid replacement therapy in cases of dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, surgery, diarrhea, vomiting, or other clinical conditions requiring IV hydration.
Pharmacology:
DEXAQUA typically contains a balanced isotonic solution of electrolytes (such as sodium chloride, potassium chloride) and possibly dextrose. It restores fluid volume and corrects electrolyte imbalances. The isotonic nature prevents osmotic damage to cells while replenishing essential minerals and energy.
Dosage:
Dosage is patient-specific based on body weight, clinical condition, and electrolyte needs.
Adult standard infusion rate is 50–100 ml/hour or as directed by a physician.
Pediatric use requires careful dose adjustment.
Administration:
Administered intravenously under medical supervision. Infusion should be controlled to avoid overload. Aseptic technique is mandatory.
Interaction:
May interact with corticosteroids, diuretics, or insulin when dextrose is included. Monitor electrolyte levels if used with drugs affecting fluid or salt balance.
Contraindications:
Hypervolemia, pulmonary edema
Severe renal impairment (anuria)
Hyperkalemia or known hypersensitivity to ingredients
Uncontrolled diabetes (for dextrose-based variants)
Side Effects:
Possible side effects include local site reaction, vein irritation, electrolyte disturbance, fluid overload, and in rare cases, allergic reactions.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Safe when used under supervision. In pregnant or lactating women with hypertension or diabetes, careful monitoring is necessary.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor for signs of fluid overload, especially in cardiac or renal patients
Regular blood electrolyte checks during prolonged use
Do not use if the solution is discolored or contains particulates
Therapeutic Class:
Parenteral Electrolyte & Fluid Replacement Solutions
Storage Conditions:
Store below 25°C. Do not freeze. Protect from sunlight. Use immediately after opening and discard unused portion. Keep out of reach of children.
