Indications:
Neopem is indicated for the treatment of serious bacterial infections including pneumonia, urinary tract infections, intra-abdominal infections, meningitis, septicemia, and skin and soft tissue infections caused by susceptible microorganisms.

Pharmacology:
Meropenem is a broad-spectrum, beta-lactam antibiotic of the carbapenem class. It works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, resulting in cell lysis and death. It is resistant to most beta-lactamases.

Dosage:
Adults: 500 mg to 1 g every 8 hours depending on infection severity.
Children: 10–40 mg/kg every 8 hours.
Dosage should be adjusted in renal impairment and based on clinical response.

Administration:
Administered via intravenous injection or infusion. Reconstitute with appropriate diluent before use. To be administered in a hospital setting under medical supervision.

Interaction:
May interact with valproic acid (reducing its efficacy), probenecid (increases meropenem levels), and other nephrotoxic drugs.

Contraindications:
Known hypersensitivity to meropenem or other beta-lactam antibiotics. Use cautiously in patients with CNS disorders such as seizures.

Side Effects:
Possible side effects include headache, nausea, diarrhea, rash, injection site inflammation. Rare but serious effects include seizures, anaphylaxis, and Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea.

Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use only if clearly needed and prescribed. Limited human data available; excreted in breast milk in small amounts.

Precautions & Warnings:
Use with caution in patients with a history of seizures, renal impairment, and allergic conditions. Monitor renal function during prolonged therapy.

Storage Conditions:
Store below 25°C. Protect from light. Reconstituted solution should be used immediately or within specified time if refrigerated. Keep out of reach of children.
