Indications:
Omastin 150mg capsule is indicated for the relief of allergic conditions such as hay fever (allergic rhinitis), urticaria (hives), and other skin allergies.
Pharmacology:
Omastin contains cetirizine hydrochloride, a selective histamine H1 receptor antagonist. It works by blocking histamine action, reducing allergic symptoms like itching and swelling.
Dosage:
The usual adult dose is 10 mg (one capsule) once daily. Dosage may vary based on medical advice.
Administration:
Can be taken with or without food. It is recommended to take the capsule at the same time daily for best effect.
Interaction:
May interact with alcohol and CNS depressants, increasing drowsiness. Avoid combining with other sedating medications unless prescribed.
Contraindications:
Not to be used in patients allergic to cetirizine or other antihistamines. Caution in patients with kidney impairment.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include drowsiness, dry mouth, headache, and fatigue. Rarely, dizziness or gastrointestinal discomfort may occur.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed and prescribed by a doctor. Small amounts may pass into breast milk; consult a physician before use during breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings:
Use caution when driving or operating machinery as the medicine may cause drowsiness. Adjust dose in renal impairment patients.
