Indications:
Amdocal Plus 25mg is indicated for:
Essential hypertension
Hypertension with coexisting angina
Hypertension in patients requiring combination therapy
Cardiovascular risk reduction in hypertensive patients
Pharmacology:
Amlodipine: A long-acting calcium channel blocker that dilates blood vessels, lowering peripheral resistance and blood pressure.
Atenolol: A cardioselective beta-1 blocker that reduces heart rate, cardiac output, and blood pressure, and is effective in preventing angina.
Their combination offers synergistic effects in controlling blood pressure and reducing the workload on the heart.
Dosage:
Usual adult dose: 1 tablet once daily
Dose adjustment may be needed based on blood pressure response
Not recommended in severe renal impairment or bradycardia without physician's advice
Administration:
Take orally with water
Can be taken with or without food
Best taken at the same time each day
Do not skip or stop abruptly without doctor consultation
Interaction:
Caution with other antihypertensives (additive effect)
May interact with NSAIDs (reduced antihypertensive effect)
Avoid with verapamil or diltiazem (risk of bradycardia)
May enhance blood sugar masking effect in diabetics
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Amlodipine or Atenolol
Bradycardia, heart block, or cardiogenic shock
Severe hypotension
Asthma or bronchospastic disease (due to beta-blocker)
Untreated pheochromocytoma
Side Effects:
Common: Fatigue, dizziness, bradycardia, cold extremities, edema
Less common: Nausea, constipation, headache, hypotension
Rare: Heart block, shortness of breath, allergic reactions
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Pregnancy Category C/D (Atenolol may affect fetal growth)
Not recommended during pregnancy unless absolutely necessary
Use caution while breastfeeding
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor heart rate and blood pressure regularly
Use cautiously in patients with diabetes, asthma, or kidney disease
Do not discontinue abruptly – may cause rebound hypertension or angina
May cause dizziness—avoid driving at the beginning of therapy
