Indications
INTRACEF 500 mg capsule is used to treat respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, otitis media, and skin infections caused by susceptible bacteria.
Pharmacology
Cefixime is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis leading to cell death.
Dosage & Administration
Typically, adults take 400-800 mg daily, divided into one or two doses. Capsules should be taken orally with water, with or without food.
Interaction
May interact with antacids, probenecid, and other antibiotics affecting renal elimination.
Contraindications
Not for patients with known hypersensitivity to cephalosporins or penicillin antibiotics.
Side Effects
Possible side effects include diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain, rash, and rarely allergic reactions.
