Indications:
DIARYL 2MG is indicated for treatment of schizophrenia, acute manic or mixed episodes of bipolar disorder, and as adjunct therapy for major depressive disorder.
Pharmacology:
Aripiprazole acts as a partial agonist at dopamine D2 and serotonin 5-HT1A receptors and antagonist at serotonin 5-HT2A receptors, balancing neurotransmitters related to mood and psychosis.
Dosage:
Adults: Dose typically starts at 10-15 mg once daily, adjusted by physician.
The 2 mg tablet may be used for titration or dose adjustment.
Administration:
Oral administration. Tablets should be swallowed whole with or without food.
Interaction:
May interact with CYP3A4 and CYP2D6 inhibitors/inducers, CNS depressants, and antihypertensives. Dose modification may be necessary.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Aripiprazole.
Caution in patients with seizure disorders or cardiovascular disease.
Side Effects:
Possible side effects include nausea, dizziness, insomnia, anxiety, weight gain, and rare risks like tardive dyskinesia or neuroleptic malignant syndrome.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding only if clearly needed and prescribed by a doctor.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor for neuroleptic malignant syndrome.
Avoid abrupt discontinuation.
Use cautiously in elderly patients with dementia-related psychosis.
