Indications:
DIARYL 3MG is indicated for the treatment of schizophrenia, acute manic or mixed episodes of bipolar disorder, and adjunct treatment in major depressive disorder.
Pharmacology:
Aripiprazole acts as a partial agonist at dopamine D2 and serotonin 5-HT1A receptors, and antagonist at 5-HT2A receptors, modulating neurotransmitter activity to manage psychosis and mood disorders.
Dosage:
Adults: Usual starting dose is 10-15 mg once daily, titrated by the physician.
3 mg tablet used for dose adjustment or titration.
Administration:
Oral use, swallow whole with or without food.
Interaction:
Potential interactions with CYP3A4 and CYP2D6 inhibitors/inducers, CNS depressants, and antihypertensives; dose adjustments may be necessary.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Aripiprazole.
Caution with seizure history and cardiovascular disease.
Side Effects:
May include nausea, dizziness, insomnia, anxiety, weight gain; rare but serious effects like tardive dyskinesia or neuroleptic malignant syndrome.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use only if benefit outweighs risk; consult doctor before use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor for neuroleptic malignant syndrome.
Avoid abrupt discontinuation.
Use cautiously in elderly dementia patients.
