Indications:
Amdocal Plus 50mg is indicated for:

  • Moderate to severe essential hypertension

  • Hypertension associated with angina

  • Patients requiring combination therapy for better BP control

  • Secondary prevention of cardiovascular events

Pharmacology:
This combination includes:

  • Amlodipine: A calcium channel blocker that inhibits calcium influx into vascular smooth muscles, resulting in vasodilation and reduced blood pressure.

  • Atenolol (50mg): A cardioselective beta-blocker that reduces heart rate and cardiac workload, helping to manage hypertension and prevent angina.

Together, they provide additive antihypertensive effects.

Dosage:

  • Recommended dose: 1 tablet once daily

  • Dose adjustment based on patient response and tolerability

  • Not suitable for patients with severe renal, hepatic, or cardiac dysfunction without medical advice

Administration:

  • Taken orally once daily

  • Can be taken with or without meals

  • Swallow whole with water

  • Avoid skipping or doubling doses

Interaction:

  • Potentiated effect when used with other antihypertensives

  • May interact with NSAIDs (reducing BP-lowering effect)

  • Caution with antiarrhythmics, insulin, or antidiabetics

  • Avoid combining with calcium channel blockers like verapamil

Contraindications:

  • Hypersensitivity to amlodipine or atenolol

  • Bradycardia, 2nd or 3rd-degree heart block

  • Cardiogenic shock or overt heart failure

  • Asthma or COPD (due to atenolol)
