Indications
JARDIAN 25 mg is indicated for:
Improving glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus
Reducing the risk of cardiovascular death in adults with type 2 diabetes and established cardiovascular disease
Managing heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF)
Pharmacology
Empagliflozin is a highly selective sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor. It works by preventing glucose reabsorption in the kidneys, increasing urinary glucose excretion, thereby reducing blood glucose levels. It also provides cardiovascular and renal benefits.
Dosage & Administration
Recommended dose: 10 mg once daily initially.
May increase to 25 mg once daily if needed and tolerated.
Can be taken with or without food.
Interaction
May interact with diuretics (increase dehydration risk), insulin or sulfonylureas (increase hypoglycemia risk), and certain blood pressure medications.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to Empagliflozin
Severe renal impairment (eGFR < 30 ml/min/1.73m²)
End-stage renal disease or dialysis
Side Effects
Common: Increased urination, urinary tract infection, genital infections
Rare: Dehydration, hypotension, ketoacidosis, hypoglycemia (when combined with insulin)
Pregnancy & Lactation
Not recommended during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy.
Use caution during breastfeeding; insufficient human data available.
Precautions & Warnings
Monitor renal function before and during treatment.
Use with caution in elderly, dehydrated, or hypotensive patients.
Educate patients on signs of urinary and genital infections.
Therapeutic Class
SGLT2 (Sodium-Glucose Co-Transporter 2) Inhibitor
Oral antidiabetic agent
Storage Conditions
Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
