CARDOCAL 5 is indicated for:
Hypertension (high blood pressure).
Chronic stable angina.
Vasospastic angina (Prinzmetal’s angina).
Pharmacology
Amlodipine is a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker that inhibits the influx of calcium ions into vascular smooth muscles and cardiac muscles. This action relaxes blood vessels, reduces peripheral vascular resistance, and lowers blood pressure.
Dosage and Administration
Starting dose: 5 mg once daily.
Maximum dose: 10 mg once daily, as directed by a physician.
Can be taken with or without food.
Interaction
Increased hypotensive effect when used with other antihypertensives.
Use with caution alongside grapefruit juice, as it may enhance amlodipine levels.
May interact with certain drugs like simvastatin or CYP3A4 inhibitors.
Contraindications
Severe hypotension.
Cardiogenic shock.
Known hypersensitivity to amlodipine or any of its components.
Side Effects
Common: Dizziness, headache, flushing, or swelling in the ankles.
Rare: Palpitations, fatigue, or gastrointestinal discomfort.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Should be used during pregnancy only if clearly necessary.
Consult a doctor before use if breastfeeding, as small amounts may pass into breast milk.
Precautions & Warnings
Caution is advised in patients with severe aortic stenosis or hepatic impairment.
Abrupt discontinuation should be avoided, as it may worsen angina symptoms.
