Indications:
BEXIDAL 50 MG Tablet is indicated for:
Treatment of fungal infections caused by Candida species.
Oropharyngeal and esophageal candidiasis.
Cryptococcal meningitis.
Vaginal candidiasis.
Prevention of fungal infections in immunocompromised patients.
Pharmacology:
Fluconazole: A triazole antifungal that works by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, an essential component of fungal cell membranes, leading to cell death.
Dosage and Administration:
The dose depends on the type and severity of infection.
Adults: Typically 50-200 mg daily, as prescribed.
Children: Dose adjusted based on weight and infection severity.
Can be taken with or without food.
Swallow tablet whole with water.
Interaction:
May interact with drugs such as warfarin, phenytoin, cyclosporine, and oral hypoglycemics.
Avoid alcohol as it may increase the risk of liver toxicity.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to fluconazole or other azole antifungals.
Coadministration with drugs that prolong QT interval.
Side Effects:
Common: Nausea, headache, abdominal pain, or rash.
Rare: Liver dysfunction, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, or QT prolongation.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use only if the potential benefit justifies the risk to the fetus.
Caution is advised during breastfeeding as fluconazole is excreted in breast milk.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor liver function in patients receiving prolonged therapy.
Use with caution in patients with renal impairment or cardiac conditions.
