Pharmacology
MONOCAST 5 MG contains montelukast sodium, a selective leukotriene receptor antagonist. It blocks the effects of leukotrienes in the lungs and nasal passages, reducing airway inflammation, bronchoconstriction, and allergy symptoms.
Dosage & Administration
Children aged 6–14 years: 5 mg once daily, preferably in the evening
Can be taken with or without food
Must be taken regularly as prescribed, not for acute asthma attacks
Interaction
Low interaction risk
Inform the doctor about any other medicines, supplements, or herbal products being taken
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to montelukast or any other components of the formulation
Not suitable for acute asthma attacks
Side Effects
Common: headache, stomach pain, sore throat
Less common: behavior or mood changes, dizziness, rash
Pregnancy & Lactation
Not applicable for pediatric dosage
For adolescent females, use only under medical advice
Precautions & Warnings
Monitor for mood or behavior changes in children
Not a substitute for fast-acting inhalers during asthma attacks
