Indications:
Symbion Bexicap is indicated for:
Treatment of urinary tract infections (UTIs)
Respiratory tract infections
Skin and soft tissue infections
Other infections caused by susceptible bacteria
Pharmacology:
This capsule contains a combination of two antibiotics:
Cefixime (400 mg): A third-generation cephalosporin that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis.
Ofloxacin (12 mg): A fluoroquinolone antibiotic that inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, preventing bacterial replication.
The combination provides broad-spectrum antibacterial activity against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.
Dosage:
Adults: Usually one capsule twice daily or as prescribed by the physician
Duration and dose depend on infection severity and type
Administration:
Take orally with a full glass of water, preferably after meals. Complete the full prescribed course.
Interaction:
May interact with antacids, sucralfate, iron supplements, and certain other antibiotics. Inform your doctor about all medications being taken.
Contraindications:
Allergy to cephalosporins or fluoroquinolones
History of tendon disorders related to fluoroquinolones
Pregnancy and breastfeeding (consult doctor)
Severe kidney or liver impairment
Side Effects:
Common: Nausea, diarrhea, headache, dizziness
Rare: Tendon rupture, hypersensitivity reactions, photosensitivity
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use only if clearly needed and prescribed by a doctor. Safety in pregnancy and lactation is not well established.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor for allergic reactions and tendon pain. Use cautiously in patients with kidney or liver problems.
