Indications:
Used for the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), panic disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), social anxiety disorder, and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD).
Pharmacology:
Vivanta contains Sertraline, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). It increases serotonin levels in the brain by inhibiting its reuptake, which helps improve mood and reduce anxiety.
Dosage & Administration:
The typical starting dose is 50 mg once daily, which may be gradually increased to 100 mg or more based on clinical response. It should be taken consistently at the same time each day, with or without food.
Interaction:
May interact with MAO inhibitors, pimozide, anticoagulants, other SSRIs, NSAIDs, and CYP enzyme modulators. Caution is advised due to potential for serotonin syndrome.
Contraindications:
Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Sertraline or concurrent use of MAO inhibitors. Not recommended for use in children under certain indications.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include nausea, headache, dry mouth, dizziness, drowsiness, insomnia, and sexual dysfunction. Rare but serious effects include suicidal thoughts, serotonin syndrome, and seizures.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Caution is advised during lactation as Sertraline may pass into breast milk.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor for suicidal thoughts, especially during the initial weeks of therapy or dosage changes. Use cautiously in patients with liver impairment, seizure disorders, or bipolar disorder.
