Indications:
Vintelix 5mg is indicated for the treatment of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) in adults.
Pharmacology:
Vortioxetine, the active ingredient, is a serotonin modulator and stimulator. It increases serotonin activity in the brain by inhibiting its reuptake and modulating multiple serotonin receptors, thereby improving depressive symptoms and cognitive function.
Dosage & Administration:
The usual starting dose is 5 mg once daily, with or without food. The dose may be increased gradually depending on the patient’s response. Dose adjustment may be needed in elderly or sensitive patients.
Interaction:
May interact with MAO inhibitors, serotonergic drugs (e.g., SSRIs, SNRIs), anticoagulants, antiplatelet agents, and CYP enzyme modulators. Risk of serotonin syndrome with certain combinations.
Contraindications:
Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Vortioxetine. Do not use concurrently with or within 14 days of MAO inhibitors.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include nausea, dizziness, constipation, and abnormal dreams. Less common effects may include dry mouth, increased sweating, and sexual dysfunction.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use only if clearly necessary. There are limited data on safety during pregnancy and breastfeeding, so caution is advised.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor for suicidal thoughts or behavior changes, especially during dose adjustments. Use cautiously in patients with seizure history or bipolar disorder. Gradual discontinuation is recommended to avoid withdrawal symptoms.
