Indications:
GASTALFET 1000MG is indicated for the treatment and prevention of gastric and duodenal ulcers, reflux esophagitis, and gastritis.
Pharmacology:
Sucralfate, the active ingredient, is a basic aluminum salt of sulfated sucrose. It forms a complex with proteins at ulcer sites, creating a protective coating that shields against acid, pepsin, and bile salts. This aids in ulcer healing and symptom relief.
Dosage:
Usual adult dose: 1 tablet (1000 mg) 2–4 times daily on an empty stomach, 1 hour before meals and at bedtime, or as directed by a physician.
Administration:
Should be taken orally with water on an empty stomach. Avoid antacids within 30 minutes of taking this medicine.
Interaction:
May impair absorption of other drugs like digoxin, phenytoin, ciprofloxacin, tetracycline, and theophylline. Maintain a gap of at least 2 hours between GASTALFET and other medications.
Contraindications:
Known hypersensitivity to sucralfate or any component of the tablet.
Side Effects:
Most commonly constipation. Others may include dry mouth, indigestion, nausea, gastric discomfort, or rare allergic reactions.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding only if clearly needed and under medical supervision.
Precautions & Warnings:
Use with caution in patients with chronic kidney disease due to aluminum accumulation risk. Ensure proper hydration.
