Indications:
GASTALFET is indicated for the treatment and prevention of gastric and duodenal ulcers, and for the management of gastritis, esophagitis, and other acid-related gastrointestinal conditions.
Pharmacology:
GASTALFET (Sucralfate) forms a viscous, adhesive substance that binds to ulcer sites, creating a physical barrier against acid, pepsin, and bile salts for up to 6 hours, thereby allowing the ulcer to heal.
Dosage:
Adults: 1 to 2 teaspoons (5–10 ml) 2 to 4 times daily, preferably before meals and at bedtime or as directed by the physician.
Administration:
Shake well before use. Take on an empty stomach.
Interaction:
May interfere with the absorption of certain drugs like tetracycline, fluoroquinolones, and digoxin. Maintain a gap of at least 2 hours between GASTALFET and other medications.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Sucralfate or any component of the formulation.
Side Effects:
Constipation is the most common side effect. Others may include dry mouth, nausea, stomach upset, or allergic reactions in rare cases.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Generally considered safe, but should be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding only if clearly needed and prescribed by a physician.
Precautions & Warnings:
Use with caution in patients with chronic renal failure due to risk of aluminum accumulation. Ensure adequate hydration.
